Schernikau is a district of the town Bismark ( Altmark) in the district of Stendal, in Saxony- Anhalt, Germany.

Geography

The village Schernikau in the southeastern Altmark is located about six kilometers west of Stendal in a slightly hilly area, which gradually slopes down to the Uchtetal to the south and east.

History

The place Schernikau is first mentioned in a document from the year 1292. The name can be derived from the Slavic: cernekowe = " Black House " - belkowe = " White House " (now the district Belkau, first mentioned 1283).

Until December 31, 2009 Schernikau was an independent municipality with the associated district Belkau.

That their communities dissolved and a new unified community named town Bismark (Altmark ) were combined. This agreement was approved by the county as a lower municipal supervisory authority and entered into force on 1 January 2010.

Schernikau is located on the regional road 15, the combination of Bismark ( Altmark) to Stendal. There buses stop and call buses of the regional transport company West Saxons ( RVW ) stendalbus under the brand name. The nearest railway station is located in the neighboring Steinfeld ( Altmark) on the railway line Stendal - Uelzen.
