The community is not completely in the landscape Schorfheide, but partly at its western edge.

History

The municipality of Schorfheide is created by amalgamation of the municipalities Finowfurt and Great Beautiful Beck on 26 October 2003 in the course of municipal reform.

Demographics

The following two illustrations of how the population Schorfheides has evolved into its present boundaries and is expected to develop. After the Second World War refugees from the eastern territories led to a population boost. Since the housing of the GDR focused on the capital, county seats and a few industrial centers, the population fell to the territory of the municipality. Since the turn it comes to a rebound in the population. For the future, by 2030, the statisticians of the State Office predict a significant decline in the population, while the Bertelsmann Foundation expects only a slight population loss.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 21 August 2007.

Blazon: " From Green and Gold diagonally divided about a reduced blue Wellenschildfuß, assigned to the division line in front of half a golden tree disc and rear of a half black mill wheel. "

The flag of the municipality is two-lane yellow-green ( green-gold ) with the coat of arms in the middle.

Partnerships

The municipality maintains partnerships with the places Korschenbroich (North Rhine- Westphalia), Mielno ( West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland) and Dorossiamasso ( Burkina Faso).

Culture and sights

In the list of monuments in Schorfheide and in the list of ground monuments in Schorfheide (municipality ) are the Cultural Monuments of the State of Brandenburg. This includes the hunting lodge Great Beautiful Beck in the same district.

Large parts of the municipality is part of the Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide -Chorin, founded in 1990.

In the Schorfheide Game Park native animal species such as otters, red deer, fallow deer, wild boar and mouflon and European wolves, bison, elk, lynx and Przewalski's horses are seen.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

The community is located close to the motorway 11 Three waterways traverse the community, the Oder- Havel Canal, the Finowkanal and Werbellinkanal.

The municipal area are the stations Klandorf and Great Beautiful Beck regional train from Berlin- Karow to Great Beautiful Beck, the so-called " Heidekrautbahn " ( course book number 209.27 ), operated by the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG (NEB ).
