History

The community association Schweich was created by the State Law amending municipal constitutional requirements and to prepare for the reorganization of the municipalities of 16 July 1968, which determined the transformation of existing offices to federation communities. The community association Klüsserath was dissolved in the course of conducted by the Land Rheinland-Pfalz territorial reform 1969/1970 and the communities Klüsserath, Leiwen, Köwerich, Detzem, Thörnich, Ensch, Schleich, Pölich and Bekond came to the municipality Schweich. The officially awarded additional title to the Roman wine road bears the municipality since 1 January 1989. On 1 January 2012, the local church Trittenheim was incorporated into the municipality, it previously belonged to the municipality Neumagen -Dhron in the district Bernkastel -Wittlich.
