Dreis

Dreis is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate, located at the Salm. It belongs to the municipality of Wittlich -Land. Dreis is a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

Dreis is located at the outlet of Salm from the Eifel mountains at the foot of the castle hill, on the edge of Wittlich Depression. Dreis to include the residential places country house Kasfeld, Lindenhof, Maarhof, hunting lodge Schumacher and Sonnenhof.

History

Dreis one of the oldest places of Wittlicher country. The place is named after the mineral springs ( = Drees ), which can be found in the town center at the former bull stable. Dreis, a royal estate ( " fisci " ), was given by the brother of Charlemagne Carloman I, the end of the 8th century, the monastery of Echternach on the Sauer. In the year 785 Charlemagne confirmed the donation of his brother. A certificate of the original donation had not been issued. Carloman died in 771 A copy of the document is located in the golden book (" Liber aureus ") of the Abbey of Echternach, which is now kept in Gotha.

Beginning in 1794, Dreis under French rule, 1815, the place on the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946 he is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Dreis consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The 16 seats in the City Council are distributed among three groups of voters.

Culture and sights

Castle Dreis

Dreis Castle, built as a summer residence of the abbots of Echternach in 1774, later came into the possession of the Counts of Walderdorff. The two and a half storey quarry stone with outlines in red sandstone a true landmark with rich furnishings.
