Gipperath

Gipperath ( first mentioned in 1098 as Gevenrothe ) is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Manderscheid.

Geography

The village lies in the volcanic Eifel. 42 percent of the district area is forested. In the northeast is located 3 km Distance Niederöfflingen, in the southeast with 4 km Plein and southwest with 3 km Schladt. The nearby forest is called Geisbüch.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1098 as in the monastery of St. Simeon Gevenrothe in Trier. The place already had in the 12th century over a church. Beginning in 1794, Gipperath under French rule, 1815, the place on the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. In June 1908 there was the first telephone device, in May 1913, the power supply went the water line and in December 1920 in operation. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Gipperath consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009, by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Community partnership

There is a partnership with the French community Beuvillers. Every two years the Gipperather go to France and in the change to the French come to Gipperath.

Culture and sights

Worth the oak grove are (just before the entrance can still be seen from a great distance ), the Gipperather mill, the Barrow, the church of the 16th century and the Cross with Saint Quirinus, which is also dedicated to the Church and its patronage on April 30 is celebrated. In the church there is an altar, which replaced a simple wooden table in the 1990s. On the front page is an emblem to find with a cross. This cross represents the 12 tribes of the apostles dar. Behind this stone slab are finger bones as a relic.
