Schwarzenborn

Schwarzenborn is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Manderscheid.

Geography

Schwarzenborn lies in a forested area of the western Eifel near the U.S. Air Force Base Spangdahlem Air Base. 71.2 percent of the district area is forested.

History

Schwarzenborn belonged since the late Middle Ages to the rule Oberkail in the Duchy of Luxembourg, which was a fief of the Counts of Manderscheid - Kail until their extinction in 1762; then the rule fell to the line Manderscheid - Blankenheim.

After 1792, French revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, which included the Duchy of Luxembourg, occupied and annexed in October 1795. From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton Dudeldorf in the department of forests.

In 1815, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Thus, the community came Schwarzenborn 1816 Wittlich district in the Trier region in the province of the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine, which merged in 1822 in the Rhine Province. Schwarzenborn was assigned to the mayor's Gran village.

The Church of Oberkail served the black natives as a parish church, but also the monastery Himmerod, about three kilometers south-east, the city stamped. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate.
