Oberscheidweiler

Oberscheidweiler in the Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Manderscheid.

Geography

The village lies on the edge of the volcanic Eifel on a high plateau between Alf and Sammetbachtal. To the south, Niederscheidweiler, to the west and north is Hasborn Mückeln.

To Oberscheidweiler include residential places Berghof, Hubertushof, Mauritiushof, Oberscheidweiler mill and Tannenhof.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1144 in a letter of protection of Emperor Henry IV for the monastery Springiersbach as Scheida. Since the 17th century, the name Oberscheidweiler is in use.

The place was one of the Electorate of Trier and in the office down. Since the monastery Springiersbach had until the 19th century owned in Oberscheidweiler, jurisdiction in the 16th century was temporarily divided into two parts. The Electorate of Trier fief and courtiers were under the high court in Strohn, while the monastic subjects were under the jurisdiction of the lower monastery.

Beginning in 1794, Oberscheidweiler under French rule, 1815, the place on the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946 he is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Due to its location at the historic post road from Trier to Koblenz, the Post had special meaning to the place from about 1730. Initially there was Oberscheidweiler station of the Thurn-und- Taxis post. After collection of the imperial post was from 1898 to 1957 even a post office first class in Oberscheidweiler. The old post road through the town was chosen in the late 19th century as a cable route for telegraph cables. The special importance of the post was also reflected in the 1993 municipal coat of arms conferred containing the inserted wandered blue lace a post horn.

Ecclesiastical belonged Oberscheidweiler already in the 15th century as the parish Filialort Wollmerath. The place remained after 1715 Branch of Wollmerath, as they allowed the Oberscheid hamlets, attending church in Niederscheidweiler. 1775 came Oberscheidweiler as a branch to the parish Strohn, after 1810 then to the parish Niederscheidweiler. The Church in Oberscheidweiler goes back to a chapel from the 18th century that have been extended several times.

Parish council

The local council in Oberscheidweiler consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

The Catholic branch church of St. Roch and Catherine of Alexandria is a four-axle hall building and goes back in the core of a chapel from the 18th century, which was expanded in 1870 and 1922. The church was in 1973/74 completely refurbished.

In the West, the federal motorway runs first in Wittlich is a station of the Mosel route.
