Eckfeld

Corner square is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Manderscheid.

Geography

Corner square is surrounded by the volcanic Eifel with its hilly landscape in the immediate vicinity of the Eifelmaare. It is close to the corner squares Trockenmaar is with numerous paleontological finds. Are known in particular the prehistoric horse and the oldest honeybee in the world.

At the corner square include the residential places Birkenhof, Buchholz ( former convent ), wood mill, Lindenhof and Tannenhof.

History

The place is mentioned in 973 in a donation document from Emperor Otto I to the monastery of Echternach first time. Beginning in 1794, corner section under French rule, 1815, the place on the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946 he is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in corner field consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

Fossils at 44.3 million years old Eckfelder Maar (eg the " Eckfelder Urpferd " and the " oldest honeybee in the world" ) have been provided by the State Collection of Natural History Rhineland- Palatinate the Maarmuseum in Manderscheid.

Church and Monastery

The tower of the corner squares Church of St. Catherine was built around the year 1450 and developed as a defensive tower. At the tower, a new nave was grown in 1882.

The Church of St. Catherine in corner square is just like the church in Pantenburg Branch Church of the beech wood.
