Bettenfeld

Bed box is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate in the southern Eifel. It belongs to the municipality Manderscheid. Bed box is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The place ( 460-480 m above sea level) is surrounded by two surveys: the southwest lies the forest area of ​​the 544 m high Holzbeul while rises the extinct volcanoes of the Mosen mountain on the eastern side of the bed Fields area. The Mosen mountain ( 519 m) ​​contains four crater. The most impressive of these is the water-filled wind Born, a crater, whose rim wall is completely intact. The wind Born is the only Bergkratersee north of the Alps. The unusual appearance of the Mosen mountain was recognized in the 19th century travelers, artists and scholars from, among others, by the painter Fritz von Wille and the naturalist Alexander von Humboldt.

History

The first mention bed box under the name " Bettenvelt " was in the year 1179. By the end of the 18th century bed box belonged to the manor sea field in the Duchy of Luxembourg.

After 1792 French Revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, which included the Duchy of Luxembourg, occupied and annexed in October 1795. From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton Dudeldorf in the department of forests.

In 1815, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. In order for the municipality bed field came in 1816 to the circle Wittlich in the Trier region in the province of the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine, which merged in 1822 in the Rhine Province.
