Karl, Germany

Karl ( in Eifel dialect: Koahl ) is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Manderscheid.

Geography

The place is located in the Eifel. 61.8 percent of the district area is forested. About nine kilometers north is Manderscheid.

History

Beginning in 1794, the site Karl was under French rule, 1815, the place on the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946 he is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Karl consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

In the center of the town is a beautiful shrine. In the old chapel there is a rococo pillars altar from the late 17th century.

Beyond the Lieser in the amount of the Karl Kaufmann bridge are located on the hillside a few remnants of the former worthies castle.
