Dierscheid

Dierscheid at Meulenwald is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Wittlich -Land.

Geographical location

The town is located southwest of Wittlich to about 400 m above sea level. In Dierscheid is the cellar hill, with 448 meters the highest mountain in the municipality Wittlich -Land.

History

From an early colonization testify Roman ruins. Corresponding findings are partly exhibited in the local museum.

Dierscheid was first mentioned in 1150 in a document of the Abbey of Saint Maximin in Trier. In the 13th century the city had the name Dyrseit. The lords of breaking possessed the tithes in the parish Heidweiler, which also includes the Filialort belonged Dierscheid. In January 1417, the name changed in Diescheit. The spelling of the name of the place changed very frequently: Dierscheid, Dierschet, Dischet, Dirscheit, Dierscheydt, Dier log, Dyrseit and Derseit.

Dierscheid belonged to the rule breaking, so was under Luxembourg sovereignty. Beginning in 1794, Dierscheid under French rule, 1815, the place on the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946 he is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Dierscheid was dominated until the 1950s by agricultural, wood and pebbles bashing. Under the name Dier Scheider pebble Klopper, residents are still known far beyond the borders of today.

The local council in Dierscheid consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: "In silver on red Three mountain, in a golden deer rod, three green spruce with golden pin ".

Coat Explanation: This so-called speaking crest provides information on the place name and geographical location. The name Dierscheid means as much as deer - that spruce and horns. The sign foot symbolizes the location of the village on a mountain height of Voreifel. The colors silver and red recall the membership of the Electorate of Trier.
