Rivenich

Rivenich is a municipality in the municipality Wittlich -Land in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate.

Geography

Rivenich located in the front of the Eifel Salm. 33 percent of the district area is forested. The nearest big city is Trier 24 km to the southwest.

History

Rivenich 748 was first mentioned as Riveniacus documented. After the French Revolution was the place part of the Saar departments. 1815 it to the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946 he is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Church of Saint Briktius

The present church was built in Rivenich 1870 and 1871 in Neo-Gothic style according to plans by Reinhold Wirtz, the medieval tower remained. The church was in 2000, a renovation of the interior. Here frescoes were discovered in the 1920s that had been painted over in the last renovation.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: shield divided diagonally left step-shaped front in silver a red dragon, red in rear three golden ears. It was established in 1975 approved by the district government.
