Wittlich-Land

The community association Wittlich -Land is an administrative unit in the form of a local authority in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. The municipality belong to 24 separate local communities, the administrative headquarters are in the town of Wittlich, although not belonging to the municipality.
Geography
The altitude of Wittlicher country ranges from 125 m at plates in Liesertal up to 448 m on the basement mountain at Dierscheid, the highest elevation of the South Eifel to the landscape of the greater part of the Association of the municipality is part, while the rest is scenic attributable to the Moselle Valley. Due to the foothills of the Eifel mountains flow the two tributaries of the Mosel, Salm and Lieser.

History
Most of the towns in the country Wittlicher comes from the Frankish settlement period from the 6th to the 8th century. Around the turn of the millennium finds certain places in the possession of various monasteries and smaller fiefdoms. In the area of Wittlicher country, the dominions of the Archbishopric of Trier and the County of Luxembourg, between which there were frequent wars because of mutual territorial claims overlapped. In 1146 the decision that ensured the existence of the limits until the end of the old empire fell. The archbishop built the castles Obermanderscheid and New Castle near Wittlich as a country castles that served as border security against Luxembourg. After the archbishops of Trier had acquired at the beginning of the 14th century, the dignity of an elector, the Wittlich country fell within the range of four electoral offices: Wittlich, Manderscheid, Pfalzel and Bernkastel. The village Dreis belonged to the Abbey of Echternach.
The western part of the country with the rule Wittlicher fraction belonged to the Duchy of Luxembourg. This area included the communities break Dierscheid, Gladbach, Greverath, Heidweiler, Heckenmünster and Niersbach. The community Dodenburg belonged to the dominion Scharfbillig.
During the time of French annexation 1794-1814 Wittlicher land belonged with its largest part to the Département de la Sarre, in the rest of the Département des Forêts. Under Prussian administration Wittlich formed in the Trier region of the Rhine province its own district with several mayors.
In 1970, the enlarged community association was formed in the course of administrative reform in parts of the former municipality Wittlich -Land, the community association field bins and the municipality Hetzerath.

The association council Wittlich -Land consists of 36 volunteer council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a personalized proportional representation, and the full-time mayor as chairman.

Economy
The economic structure of the municipality Wittlich -Land, formerly dominated by agriculture and forestry and viticulture has changed step by step toward manufacturing, trade and services since the 1960s.
Through the land use planning of the municipality and appropriate development plans of the local churches commercial and industrial areas are recognized and developed. This happens mainly in the Regional Spatial Plan with the special function " commercial " reported local churches Bins field Hetzerath, country Scheid and Salmtal, in the " Trier Region Industrial Park " and in the local communities Dreis, Klausen, Osann- Monzel and Sehlem in the context of self-development.
Traffic

The Maare- Mosel bike path was built on the former railway line down - Lieser with the continuation of Bernkastel -Kues. The bike path runs between Wittlich Wittlich Depression and Schweich through the territory of the municipality and the bike path runs along the Salm- Salm between Dreis and Klüsserath / Mosel. To the national network of hiking trails, the municipality is served by the Eiffel trail. This premium hiking trail leads from Himmerod coming through the Salmtal to break and then through the back country on Greverath up by a cord on Kyll.
