Burg, Bernkastel-Wittlich

Burg (Mosel ) is a pure wine-growing and tourist resort on the Moselle River in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. The municipality belongs to the municipality of Traben -Trarbach.

Location

Castle lies on the right bank of the Moselle between Koblenz and Trier, near Traben -Trarbach and Zell.

Land use

The size of the entire municipal area is 361.83 ha, of which 111.94 ha of vineyards, planted with Riesling to 70 percent and 30 percent with Müller -Thurgau grape varieties, 102.88 ha of forest, 83.32 hectares on estates - usually owned by the municipality - and 63,69 ha on other surfaces. Through the development of a new building site, the village was up to the limit of Enkirch towards expanding and received by the construction of 25 new emigrants courts a whole new look.

History

The name of the castle seems to be justified by the existence of a Roman fort. The village was first mentioned in the year 928, the Archbishop of Trier, Rutger bequeathed as Duke of Lorraine Giselbert castle as a gift. The Archbishopric of Trier was until 1794 the country gentleman. Through the turmoil of the French Revolution the castle came under French rule and in 1814 after the defeat of Napoleon, part of the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946 the castle is part of the newly founded state of Rhineland- Palatinate. The suffix " (Mosel) " bears the municipality since 1 May 1970.

Parish council

The local council in the castle consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
