Longuich

Longuich is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Schweich on the Roman wine road. The village lies on the right bank of the Moselle in Moselle Franconian language area.

The municipality consists of the villages Longuich, cherry and Sang- Neuhaus ( on the main road 52).

History

Longuich is a Gallo-Roman (more precisely: the Moselle Romanesque ) Place name derived from a foundation from the 1st century called Vicus Longus (long village, long quarter). It has been inhabited at least since Roman times, it have various finds, especially the Villa Urbana, whose reconstructed Badetrakt can be visited through.

The local council in Longuich consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman location.

The town mayor was elected Kathrin Schlöder with 71.67 percent of the vote.

Attractions

  • Villa Urbana Longuich, condominium from the Roman period
  • Old Castle: one of original three castles from the Middle Ages in the town center. Today, large restaurant ( Knights' Hall ), Weingut und Hotel, with castle cellar from the 12th century
  • The Mosel Bridge of Longuich has one of the few bridges in Germany still a customs house.

Economy

Today Longuich lives predominantly from viticulture, while tourism has become a strong pillar of the local economy, so there is a hotel and four Inns with a total of 240 guest beds. For several years Longuich has a commercial area in which 17 firms are located around 350 jobs. In addition, a newspaper publisher has settled with another 150 employees here.

Longuich has its own motorway exit at the Federal Highway 1 near the motorway triangle Moselle Valley. The nearest towns are Riol ( downriver ) and Kirsch ( upriver ), and Schweich and lunge on the other side of the Moselle.
