Riveris

Riveris, in Moselle Franconian Riwwares, is a municipality in the valley of the same river Riveris in the Mosel wine region. It belongs to the municipality in the district of Trier Ruwer -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate.

Location

The local church Riveris situated about ten kilometers east of Trier and about two kilometers north of the Riveris Reservoir. On the non-local traffic it is connected through the provincial road 149 and about five kilometers away federal highway 52.

History

The name and thus also the place Riveris probably have Roman origins. Mention is found in a deposit certificate to Archbishop Theodoric of Trier ( 1212-1242 ), as the jurisdiction " Ruverisse " was pledged to this village in the Archbishop.

The local council in Riveris consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election on 7 June 2009, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The eight seats on the council are divided into two groups of voters. 2004, a majority vote was held.

Coat of arms

The blazon is: " From silver divided over blue, above a growing, red, gold and crowned - reinforced lion, down a golden Cornelius Horn ".

Coat Reason: By the end of the 18th century belonged to the Electorate of Trier Riveris. A Frederick of the bridge pledged its rightful jurisdiction of the village " Ruverisse " to Archbishop Theodoric of Trier ( 1212-1242 ). A seal of " Petrus de ponte " from 1322 shows a crowned lion. Because of the membership of Riveris to the Electorate of Trier was resorted to kurtrierischen colors. Chapels and local patron is St. Cornelius. His attribute, a horn, is in the lower field. The blue in the lower sign indicates the Riveris River and Reservoir.

Economy

Riveris lived in the past by agriculture, especially viticulture and fruit, mainly apples. Therefore, it was also called jokingly " Aäpelköst " (apple box ). Even today, the cider (apple wine) is a specialty. In Riveris there was also a water-powered grain mill and an oil mill.

Tourism

Riveris is a recognized tourist destination and a village which is often mainly visited by hikers seeking peace and guests. The Riveris you can wander in its full extent or explore by bicycle.

The Riveristal is rich in natural monuments in the form of quartzite rocks, such as the " Long Stone " ( district Morscheid ) and the " white stone ".
