Seckau Tauern

The Seckauer Tauern (also: Seckauer Alps) are a small subgroup of the Lower Tauern in the Central Alps of Austria's Eastern Alps. The mountain is located in the Austrian province of Styria.

Boundary and structure

The Seckauer Tauern mountains are the eastern part of the Low Tauern; they are limited by the valleys of Ingering Bach and Liesing. It is named after the market town of Seckau, which is located 5 km north of Knittel field and is known for its Benedictine Abbey.

The northwestern part of the mountain is also known as Triebener Tauern. About this part of the Tauern Triebener leads called pass of shoots by Jews castle.

Adjacent Mountain Ranges

The Seckauer Tauern border on the following mountain groups in the Alps:

  • Ennstaler Alps ( north and east )
  • Lavanttaler Alps ( in the south)
  • Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern ( to the west)

Summit

The highest peaks are the main Vultures ( 2417 m), the high- Reichhart ( 2416 m), the striking Seckauer tines ( 2398 m ) and the Maier Anger mountain ( 2356 m).

Tourism

Mountain cabins

In the Seckauer Tauern there are the following huts of the Alpine Club and the ÖTK:

  • Sonnleitner cabin: height 1,215 m, is not serviced, self-catering, 27 Dormitory. Valley location is Gaal Gaal walking time of 1.5 hours car road to the lodge.
  • Triebentalhütte: height 1,104 m, is not serviced, self-catering, 18 mattresses, winter room with AV castle. Valley location is instincts.
  • High Reichhart - shelter: height 1,483 m.

Fern-/Weitwanderwege

The Via Alpina, a cross-border long-distance trail with five sub- paths through the whole Alps, crosses the Seckauer Tauern.

The Purple Trail Via Alpina runs with two stages through the Tauern Seckauer:

  • Section A22 of Knittelfeld about Seckau after Ingering II,
  • Section A23 of Ingering II on the Kettentörl after shoots.

Of the Austrian wide footpaths run the Zentralalpenweg and Eisenwurzenweg through the western part of the Tauern Seckauer. The 2006 scale pilgrimage of St. Lambrecht to Mariazell via the route Loretto Chapel - Gaal - Seckau also through this area.

Importance

As a year-round mountain sports destination have the Seckauer Tauern primarily regional importance. Just a few peaks as high Reichart and Seckauer tines, lure as hiking and ski touring destinations also on regional audience.
