Serenades is the debut album by the British band Anathema. It was released in February 1993 Peaceville Records.

Formation and style

The album was recorded with producer and Peaceville - founder " Hammy " Halmshaw and Mags engineer in the Academy Studios in Yorkshire. The album is still strongly influenced by Death - Doom, in J'ai Fait Une Promesse but was already typical for the gothic metal female vocals, here to hear from Ruth Wilson. They (Will Always) The had already been published on the previous EP The Crestfallen as They Die. The album ends with the 22 -minute keyboard sound collage Dreaming: The Romance. J'ai Fait Une Promesse and Sleep in Sanity 2011 were completely rearranged on Falling Deeper published.

Reception

In the magazine Rock Hard Götz Kühnemund wrote, Anathema came from the Death Metal, but lay down " no musical restrictions on ". But he also heard influences from Cathedral, My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost, such as acoustic guitars and guest singer. " Sure, everything 's has also been given in the mentioned bands, and Anathema are not exactly original - but the bottom line counts is the quality of the songs, and they are worth it to me in case Serenades good seven points.
