Sergei Bykov

Sergei Vladimirovich Bykov (Russian: Сергей Владимирович Быков; born February 26, 1983 in Nowodwinsk, RSFSR ) is a Russian professional basketball player. Bykov played a long time at MBK Dynamo in Moscow before leaving for the 2011/12 season, after having play time at PBK CSKA to Lokomotiw Kuban Krasnodar. The Russian national team won Bykov 2007 European Championship and the bronze medal at the European Championships 2011.

Career

Bykov played for the youth teams of Spartak Moscow and made his debut in the men's team in the 2000 /01 season. He then moved to the reactivated professional club MBK dynamo, with which he rose straight into the highest at that time Russian League Superleague A. In 2004 he achieved with this club to third place in the Russian championship and then joined for one season on Universitet Yugra Surgut in West Siberian lowland. In 2005 he returned already for the runner-up Dynamo Moscow and won with this club under Serbian coach Dušan Ivković the ULEB Cup 2005/06. In the following season they played through the title win in the second most important European club competition before in the highest European League ULEB Euro Cup 2006/ 07 and reached the quarterfinals, where you eliminated against the eventual champions Panathinaikos Athens. 2008 was achieved under coach Svetislav Pešić again the third place in the Russian league, but failed at the " Elite Eight " tournament in the ULEB Cup in 2007 /08 in the semifinals on Pešić ' former club Akasvasyu Girona and took third place. In Eurocup 2008/ 09, the new name of the ULEB Cup, they again reached the Elite Eight tournament, but different this time already in the quarter- finals.

2010 moved Bykov the dominant series champion PBK CSKA Moscow. With the new Serbian coach Dusko Vujošević but had no success in the highest European League ULEB Euro Cup 2010/ 11 and already retired from in the first round, after they had previously always in this competition reached the Final Four tournament since 2002. With the new Lithuanian coach Jonas Kazlauskas finally won the championship again in 2011. For the season 2011/12 Bykov joined Lokomotiw Kuban in the Black Sea region with whom he won the 2013 Eurocup.

National

In the European Championship finals in 2007 Bykov was the first time in the final squad of men's national team of the Russian Federation. In the surprising title of the Russian national team against hosts Spain in the final but was used only in three games in primary and intermediate round for a few minutes. At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, he was indeed an integral part of the rotation in the Russian selection, however, one difference after just one preliminary round victory already out before the quarter finals. At the 2009 European Championships they won as the defending champion in the first round with the first game again only once and then lost against a young German national basketball team. Nevertheless, it was enough to move into the second round, in which they won all the games, but lost in the quarterfinals to eventual finalists Serbia and ultimately reached the seventh place. In the 2010 World Cup they lost to the quarter-finals only a game against host Turkey, left there but against the eventual champions United States in spite of the strongest tournament performance of Bykov out who was top scorer of the Russian selection in this game with 17 points. In the end they finished as the EM before the seventh. At the 2011 European Championships they won even to the semi-finals all games, including a rematch against Serbia in the quarterfinals. There then one but lost to France and was able to come up with a victory in the match for third place on the surprise team of the tournament Macedonia secure the bronze medal.
