Sévrier

Sévrier is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Sévrier is located on 456 m above sea level. M., about 4 km south of the town of Annecy (air line). The village is located on the western shore of Lake Annecy on a narrow flat riparian corridors on the eastern foot of the massif of bauges belonging Semnoz.

The area of ​​12.65 km ² municipal area includes a section on the western shore of Lake Annecy. The lake shore is flat pronounced in most places, only in the far north in the area of the promontory of Semnoz there are steeper riverside areas. The main settlement area is occupied by a shallow riparian strips, which extends from about 100 m in width in the north to over 1 km wide in the south. History

The territory of Sévrier been inhabited since prehistoric times, and during the Roman period. First mentioned is the place in the 14th century. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Severius and means something like estate of Severius. Sévrier was the site of a priory, which was of the Talloires monastery dependent.

Attractions

The parish church of Sévrier dates from the 19th century. Some remnants of the former priory are obtained.
