Shawne DeAndre Merriman ( born May 25, 1984 in Washington DC ) is a former American professional American football player at the position of Outside linebackers. He played for the San Diego Chargers and the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League ( NFL). His nickname is Lights Out.

College

Merriman played for the University of Maryland and was selected in the 2005 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers in the first round than twelfth place. This draft law was actually the New York Giants, but they had the right year earlier traded to the San Diego Chargers for Eli Manning to commit, who refused to play for San Diego. The New York Giants traded their first-round picks from 2004 (4th place ) and 2005 ( 12th place ) and the Chargers could thereby increase with quarterback Philip Rivers and Shawne Merriman.

NFL

In his rookie season, in which he was voted NFL Rookie of the Year, he recorded 57 tackles and ten bag, further he was immediately elected to his first year in the Pro Bowl. At the start of the 2006 season, he tested positive for steroids and had to serve a doping suspension of four games. Despite this failure, he came at the end of the season on 62 tackles and 17 Sacks, who were the most in the NFL. The Regular Season 2007, he graduated with 68 tackles and 12.5 Sacks. In the 2007 season he was with the Chargers in the play- offs, which defeated the Tennessee Titans in the first round with 17:6. Due to a loss in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots they could not move into the Super Bowl XLII.

In the first game of the NFL season 2008 he retired to a torn ACL and missed then the rest of the season. His comeback in the 2009 season was plagued by many minor injuries and he could never connect to its services before the cruciate ligaments and recorded only four bag. Even his last season with the Chargers was not much better, after a holdout, making it a better-paid contract hoped, he was thrown back once again by injuries and was with the Chargers only reserve player.

The Chargers Merriman sacked during the season on November 3, 2010, he was engaged by the Buffalo Bills the following day.

On March 10, 2013 he gave his retirement from the NFL announced on its website.
