Main street of the village is on the Flemish Gate ( Porte de Flandre / Vlaamsepoort ) beginning Chaussée de Gand / Gentse Steenweg. The Town Hall Square is a pedestrian zone and the center of the community, which acts as an independent municipality more like a downtown district.

The nearby church of St. John was the eastern part of the municipality of the name, the western part is called Molenbeek ( Mühlbach ) and is somewhat less densely built. The border runs approximately along the railway line and the Beekkant station.

The population of Sint -Jans -Molenbeek has a high percentage especially Moroccan immigrants; since the 19th century, it is the destination point of immigration movements. The Leopold II Boulevard to the north of the village is part of the monumental east -west axis, the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart is at its endpoint on the Sacred Heart.
