Sisu Auto

Sisu Auto is a Finnish manufacturer of heavy trucks. Was named the company after the Finnish word sisu, which in Finland is " perseverance " or " endurance " means something like " force " and an important identity- concept. In Central Europe Sisu trucks are hardly to be found. The primarily market for heavy vehicles is strong in Scandinavia and Russia. In addition, Sisu still maintains a military division ( Sisu Defence ) that manufactures tactical vehicles.

History

The company Sisu was founded in 1931 by Tor Ness Ling. 1943 from Vanajan Autotehdas OY were transferred on the initiative of the Finnish army for 5 years, the license rights to Sisu production in order to secure the truck production during the war. In 1948, the two companies parted again. From the 1950s Leyland engines were used in the 1970s came Rolls Royce engines to do so. When in 1974 the Finnish State new majority owner, was the engines were replaced gradually by Cummins engines. In 1997, a cooperation agreement with Renault Trucks has been made. In the same year Partek acquired a majority stake in Sisu. The diesel engines were generally of Renault and Caterpillar. 2002 Partek was, and thus Sisu, sold to the company Kone. Since the truck business did not fit the company profile of the new owner, Sisu was sold to a Finnish investment group, which formed a new holding company named Suomen Autoteollisuus Oy. Since then, Sisu is home with private capital again only in Finland. Since December 2010 Sisu works closely with Daimler AG. Thus, in the current models Timber and rock, cab, transmission and engines from the current Mercedes- Benz Actros series can be installed. They reach a power 350-440 kW.

In Switzerland Sisu trucks from the company Windlin in Kriens are sold.
