The EWE Arena (own spelling: EWE ARENA ) is a complex of two multi -purpose arena in the Lower Saxon city of Oldenburg, which is affiliated to the Weser -Ems-Halle.

The namesake of the arena is the utility EWE AG Oldenburg. Here both arenas bear the name EWE Arena, to distinguish only one Large or Small is placed before the name. This concept is also illustrated in the logo of the EWE Arena. Here is the blue rectangle for the great and the yellow circle for the small arena.

The Small EWE Arena was opened in June 2005 and can hold up to 4,100 spectators for concerts and 3,100 spectators at basketball and 2,300 spectators at handball matches. A characteristic feature is the circular construction of the arena with a diameter of around 70 meters. In addition, the Arena has a 35 meters long and 5 meters high photovoltaic system that is installed on the side rails on the outside wall, follows the sun 's rays and also protects the hall interior from sun rays.

The Small EWE Arena is the home arena for the women's handball Bundesliga VfL Oldenburg. Until the move to the Big EWE Arena in April 2013, the men's basketball national league team EWE Baskets Oldenburg played its home games here.

ARD will broadcast since 2005 as part of the sports show boxing events from the hall. In June 2006, the German national volleyball team of men denied here in the context of a European Championship qualifying match against the Czech Republic. Furthermore, take place in the hall concerts, shows, exhibitions, fairs, congresses and meetings.

At the beginning of the 21st century, considered the city of Oldenburg the modernization of the building complex of the Weser -Ems-Halle. As a result, which is called "Project 2014", the construction of a new multipurpose arena and the demolition of several old buildings was decided.

After 5 and 6 of the Weser -Ems Hall Square was created with the demolition of buildings, began in February 2012 with the construction of the Great EWE Arena ( in the planning phase, " Weser -Ems - Arena "), and that on 20 April was opened in 2013 after 14 months of construction, with a BBL game of EWE Baskets Oldenburg against Telekom Baskets Bonn. Since then, the new arena is the home ground of the EWE Baskets.

The Grand offers over the Little EWE Arena again a significant increase in the space available. It summarizes at basketball games over 6,000, with over 5,500 handball matches in boxing matches and over 7,300 spectators. Even equestrian events can be followed by more than 4,200 spectators.
