Sophie of Saxony, Duchess of Pomerania

Sophie of Saxony ( born April 29, 1587 in Dresden, † December 9, 1635 in Stettin) was a Saxon princess of the house of Albertine Wettin and by marriage Duchess of Pomerania -Stettin.

Life

Sophie was a daughter of the Elector Christian I of Saxony (1560-1591) from his marriage to Sophie (1568-1622), daughter of the Elector Johann Georg of Brandenburg.

They married on August 26, 1610 in Dresden Duke Franz of Pomerania -Stettin ( 1577-1620 ). In marriage, no children were born. As a jointure the Office Wollin was determined for Sophie, which was estimate for this purpose Duke Francis and they managed after the death of her husband. In the time of their rule the difficult period of the Thirty Years' War falls. From 1622 to 1626 was for them in Wollin a new castle built because the existing princely house was forfeited.

After the death of the Duchess, the office reverted to Prince Bogusław XIV of Pomerania. All movable property, such as furniture and grain inventories, but were confiscated by the Kingdom of Sweden, since Sophie came from the Saxon Kurhaus, Sweden considered an enemy since the Peace of Prague.

Sophie was initially buried in the royal crypt in Szczecin, but her body transferred to 1650 in the church of St. Sophia in Dresden.
