The South African national ice hockey team is currently the 41st place in the IIHF World Ranking (April 2013) and plays at the World Championships in Divisions II and III. It is organized by the South African Hockey Association (South African Ice Hockey Association ).

History

In 1961, the association decided to leave the national team to participate in the World Cup in Switzerland, in the C group comprising six teams South Africa was fifth after the team in the last match Belgium with 9:2 had defeated. It was not until 1966, South Africa again at the C- WM in part, with all four games were clearly lost.

Only in 1992 took the Springboks again in a World Cup finals, which this time took place in their own country. South Africa was behind Spain second in the C2 group and narrowly missed promotion to the C1 group. While it was only narrowly lost against Mexico with 2:4, it continued double-digit losses against the other four group opponents. After two years Viertklassigkeit succeeded in home World Cup 2011 in Cape Town in second place behind Israel, was only narrowly lost against with 5:6 after extra time, the return to the Division II from the newly formed during the World Cup structural reforms Division II, Group B (about fifth international division), it increased in 2012 again. 2013 were abolished at the Division III Championships, which took place in their own country, the direct return.
