The Southampton Solent University is a public university in the city of Southampton on the south coast.

History

Today's university founded in 1855, dates back to the Southampton College of Art. This was 1984 Southampton Institute of Higher Education and finally Southampton Solent University 2004. Since there is already a university named University of Southampton in Southampton, the Solent epithet was used, which refers to a side of the English Channel. Officially received the establishment on 12 July 2005 the status of a University and is thus at the time the youngest university in the United Kingdom.
