Geography

Geographical Location

Spiegelberg is on the river Lauter in the natural area Swabian- Franconian Forest and is a member municipality, in the Swabian -Franconian Forest. Neighboring cities and municipalities Spiegelberg's are ( clockwise from the south): Oppenweiler, Unteraspach, Supreme box ( the district of Ludwigsburg ), the town of Beilstein, Wüstenrot (both in Heilbronn), Großerlach and Sulzbach an der Murr.

Community structure

The municipality Spiegelberg includes 12 separately by villages, hamlets, farms and houses as well as some desertions. The municipality Spiegelberg in the area as of August 31, 1971 include the village Spiegelberg, the hamlet iron Kaiserslautern, Großhöchberg, Hüttlen, Upper Roßstaig, Roßstaig and Vorderbuechelberg and the living space Gieshof and Outbound town Let hamlet. The hamlet durations mountain was incorporated in 1977. For the former municipality Nassach include the village and the hamlet Nassach Kurzach and Outbound locality glass Hausen. For the former municipality Jux Jux part of the village.

Incorporations

1827 Großhöchberg was incorporated into Spiegelberg, which formed a separate municipality until then. On September 1, 1971, the municipalities Jux and Nassach were incorporated by Spiegelberg. Durations mountain was umgemeindet on 1 January 1977 by the community Oppenweiler by Spiegelberg.

History

The place dates back to a company in 1700 in Spiegelberger district Jux Glashütte. According to economic difficulties and changing tenant built a grinding mill for mirror production in 1705 in the near Lauter. This was, according to the product generated, Spiegelberg named. The mirror hut was closed in 1794. 1795, the building of the Spiegelhütte were sold and founded a madder plant. On the 533 meter high Juxkopf, the second highest peak of the Löwenstein mountains, the Juxkopfturm the Swabian Alp Association offers an excellent panoramic view of the Swabian-Franconian Forest.

Is the Wetzsteinstollen, a former mine, were reduced in the grinding stones on the road from Winterlautertal by Jux.

In the town hall Spiegelberg is since 2005 the Glass Museum Spiegelberg, representing the history of the glassworks in the Swabian-Franconian Forest vividly.
