Staré Město (Šumperk District)

Staré Město, Staré Město pod also Sněžníkem ( German Moravian Old Town, formerly Goldeck, Latin Antiqua Triboia ) is a town with 2,154 inhabitants in Okres Šumperk, Czech Republic. It is located in the north-west of Moravia in the Valley of Krupá, which here forms the Old Town Gold Steiner boiler, surrounded by the mountains of Śnieżnik Mountains, Mountains and Biel Altvater Mountains. 12 km northwest of the city rises the mirror Glitter Schneeberg.

History

The city Goldeck was founded in the 13th century and got its name from the prolific gold and silver mining in the Middle Ages. In 1336 Goldeck to the Royal Mountain City was charged. The precious metals gained in Goldeck were processed in Prague and Kutna Hora to coins. 1423 the Hussites conquered the city; it was a stronghold of Protestantism. Since the beginning of the 15th century, the city was called the Old City, was built at the same time also the Czech adequacy Staré Město.

The mining industry lost more and more important and deposits were exhausted. In the 19th century, was only still mined graphite. 1905 was the Moravian town of Hannsdorf by the local railway Hannsdorf - Moravian Town, a railroad connection.

Moravian Old Town was once inhabited predominantly German. 1945/46, the German inhabitants were expelled.

In the city there are hardly any industrial development, it is a popular resort, the surrounding area offers many hiking opportunities. The center of the town is a large city square, centered on the town hall from the Renaissance period.

The town Staré Město pod Sněžníkem consists of the districts Chrastice ( Kratzdorf ) Kunčice ( Kunz village), Nová Seninka ( Spieglitz ), Stare Mesto ( Moravian Old Town) and Stříbrnice ( Stubenseifen ) and the settlements Hynčice pod Sušinou ( Heinzendorf under drought Mountain), Květná ( Blumenbach ), Malé Vrbno ( Kleinwürben ) Štěpánov ( Stiepanau ) and Velké Vrbno ( Großwürben ).
