Steve Bullock (Montana politician)

Steve Bullock (* April 11, 1966 in Missoula, Montana) is an American politician. He's since January 7, 2013 Governor of the U.S. state of Montana.

Life

Childhood and youth

Steve Bullock grew up in Helena zoom in Montana, where in 1984 he earned his degree at the Helena High School. After that he went to California, where he studied law at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont and later at Columbia University in New York City.

Career

In the early 1990s began Bullock as a legal consultant for the then incumbent Secretary of State of Montana, Mike Cooney to work. In the 1990s, even Bullock also worked in the Ministry of Justice of Montana and served from 1997 to 2001 under Attorney General Joe Mazurek as Deputy Attorney General.

In 2000, Bullock was a candidate for the first time for the Office of the Attorney General of Montana, but lost already in the internal party primaries Mike McGrath.

From 2001 to 2004 Bullock worked as a lawyer at the law firm Steptoe & Johnson in Washington, DC. He also worked as a visiting professor at George Washington University. From 2004 to 2008 Bullock led in Helena his own law firm, where he represented the interests of workers and medium-sized companies.

Political career

In 2008, Bullock tried again for the office of Attorney General and was able to defeat his Republican challenger Tim Fox with 52.64 percentage points. He was then to operate from January 2009 he took office as governor of Montana, in January 2013, as Attorney General.

In the election for governor of Montana in November 2012 Bullock scored a narrow victory over his opponent, Congressman Rick Hill. With 49 to 47 percentage points was enough Bullock, a projection of 8674 votes to retract a victory.

Private life

Steve Bullock is married with his wife Lisa Downs Bullock three children, daughters Caroline and Alexandria, and son Cameron.
