Stroitel, Belgorod Oblast

Stroitel (Russian Строитель ) is a city in Belgorod Oblast (Russia) with 23,933 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 20 km northwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Belgorod area east ( left) of the Vorskla, a left tributary of the Dnieper.

Stroitel is the administrative center of the Rajons Jakowlewo.

History

Stroitel originated in 1958 in connection with the development of the iron ore deposits of the Kursk magnetic anomaly and the planning of the mine Jakowlewo. The name means in Russian pathetic builders, on the other hand just construction workers.

1960, the status of an urban-type settlement and 2000, the city charter was granted.

In the village Kryukovo of Rajons the Virgin Birth Church ( Рождествено - Богородицкая церковь / Roschdestweno - Bogorodizkaja Tserkov ) in Tomarovka the Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan, short Kazan Church ( Казанская церковь / Kazanskaya Tserkov ) and Puschkarnoje the Assumption - Church of the Ascension ( Успенская церковь / Uspenskaja Tserkov ) is obtained.

In the settlement Jakowlewo there is a Memorial Museum of the Battle of Kursk, in the village Alekseevka a museum for there born theater actor Mikhail Shchepkin (1788-1863), one of the founders of Russian drama school.

Economy

The economy of Stroitel as an industrial satellite town Belgorod is determined by companies in the construction and building materials industry.

In Rajon is the iron ore mining Jakowlewo ( Jakowlewski Rudnik ).

The town is the end point of a 22 -kilometer-long railway line, which at the station Tomarovka of the route Belgorod- Sumy (Ukraine ) branches ( freight only ); nearest passenger station is Saschnoje ten kilometers north-east of the Moscow- Kursk -Kharkiv.

The M2 highway Moscow - Kursk - Belgorod- Ukrainian border and to Kharkiv (part of European route 95) leads east past Stroitel.
