Alexeyevka, Belgorod Oblast

Alexeyevka (Russian Алексеевка ) is a city in Belgorod Oblast (Russia) with 39 026 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies on the southern edge of the Central Russian plate about 300 km east of Belgorod Oblasthauptstadt at the Tichaja Sosna, a right tributary of the Don.

Alexeyevka is the Oblast subordinated administratively directly and also the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Alexeyevka was 1685 ( according to other sources 1691) as craft and trade settlement ( Sloboda ). An alternative name at this time was Alexejewskaja ( Sloboda ). The name probably occurred after the first owner Alexei Cherkassky.

An economic boom took the place with the opening of the first oil mill in 1833, composed of serfs Daniil Bokarjow from the government of Tula, who in 1829 invented a method for extracting oil from sunflower seeds (see also coat of arms ). It was the first oil mill of its kind in Russia; another opened Bokarjow even in Alekseevka 1834.

Even towards the end of the 19th century had the up in the 1920s to Voronezh province belonging village larger population than many cities. 1939 Alexeyevka received the status of an urban-type settlement.

During World War II Alexeyevka was occupied in July 1942 by the German Wehrmacht and recaptured on 19 January 1943 by troops of the Voronezh Front Red Army as part of Operation Ostrogozhsk - Rossosh.

The town charter was granted on 19 August 1954.

Culture and sights

In Alexeyevka the Trinity Church Of Saint Dmitri of Rostov Church ( церковь Дмитрия Ростовского / Tserkov Dmitrija Rostowskogo ) of 1813 and the Alexander Nevsky Church ( Троицкая церковь / Troitskaya Tserkov ) of 1809, ( церковь Александра Невского / Tserkov obtain Alexandra Nevskogo ) from 1888.

The city has a museum of local history.

Economy

Besides a number of companies in the food industry (oil, sugar, milk, canned goods, etc.), there are companies in the electrical and chemical apparatus engineering ( ChemMachine ) and the construction industry.

Alexeyevka is located on the opened on this section of railway line in 1895 Kharkiv - Waluiki - Balashov - Pensa. Due to the city is the regional road R185 Belgorod - Korotscha - Novy Oskol - Rossosh.
