Subaru R2

Subaru R2

The Subaru R2 was introduced in Japan on December 8, 2003. The vehicle was inspired by the Subaru R-2, the kei car model that was produced between 1969 and 1972 and was in allusion to this his name. Since the indirect predecessor Subaru Pleo I was too conservative in its design, the body style was somewhat rounded, while the external dimensions were similar to the still largely offered Pleo. The design of the R2 also reflects the influence of Andreas Zapatinas who had previously worked at Alfa Romeo. The R2 was the new from the Luftfahrtinspirierten " spread - wing grille " which now became the new design line and for example also the Subaru Tribeca and the following display models.

The four-cylinder engine with 658 cc displacement, there were three versions:

  • SOHC (44 kW)
  • DOHC AVCS variable valve timing (40 kW)
  • DOHC with turbocharger and intercooler (R2 STi ) ( 47 kW )

Unlike other Subaru models with boxer engines, the design was a series motor. For the smaller versions were either manual or a CVT transmission. The compressor motor was coupled with a sports shift version of the CVT transmission ( " 7-speed ICVT "). Optional all-wheel drive was available rather than front-wheel drive. The R2 was in 11 colors and 3 trim levels (one for each engine variant) available. In 2006, the R2 got a facelift which was based on the new Subaru Legacy front styling. 2005 added the Subaru R1 based on the R2 the offer. The R2 was discontinued in March 2010.
