Geography

Sulzbach an der Murr is located in the natural area Swabian- Franconian Forest on the northern arc of the Murr amidst the nature park Swabian-Franconian Forest between the Löwenstein mountains and the Murrhardter forest, in a straight line about 34 km north- northeast of Stuttgart. The municipality lies between 260 m ( Murr at the treatment plant) and 544 m above sea level ( Survey " ruler " at Eschelhof ).

The chief official description of Sulzbach an der Murr from 1871 begins with these words:

The longest distance is the municipality with about 9 km from north-northwest ( Forest Won " dispute Hunting " at Großerlach - Mittelfischbach ) to the south-southeast ( survey " Springstein " in floodplain forest - Trailhof ). Perpendicular to it are not quite 8 km ( from Mörderbächle Sieber Brook in West southwest to the edge of Großerlach - High Erupted in east-northeast ).

At Sulzbach in the north and north-east borders the municipality Großerlach, in the east and southeast of the city Murrhardt, in the south the community floodplain forest and very briefly the city Backnang, in the west with the municipality Oppenweiler and to the northwest the municipality Spiegelberg. They are all also in the Rems -Murr -Kreis.

The local government reform of 1970 led to the formation of the local government association Sulzbach, which includes the communities Spiegelberg and Großerlach. Sulzbach is also a member of the community water board Bitzer. Its task is the flood protection.

Community structure

In addition to the surrounded by meadows and lush forests, the main town of Sulzbach lie on the large district of the municipality even 17 in some cases far scattered hamlets and houses: the hamlets of Beard Bach, Berwinkel, bus station, Eschelhof, Eschenstruet, Hager, Harrenberg, Ittensberg, Kleinhöchberg, Kaiserslautern, Liemannsklinge, Schleißweiler, Sieber Bach and Zwerenberg and residential places Gronbachmühle, hammer and Haselbach mill, as well as the dialed villages Einsiedel, Desert Muehl and Old Sagmuhle.

The Gronbachmühle located in the Murr valley just above the village boundary of Sulzbach, follow up on Bart Bach and Schleißweiler. Kaiserslautern, Sieber Bach and top of hammer are in the tapered Lauter. All other districts are far from the three major arteries of the upper and lower Murr and Lauter, whose soles are in an open hallway. Apart from lying in a side Haselbach mill are surrounded by clearings settlements deep in the hills between the wooded stream valleys and also to the two rivers.

Kleinhöchberg is located on the ridge between the volume up Sieber inflow stream and Fischbach, Berwinkel harbors the Haselbach Mill on the between Fischbachtal and the opening out at Bart Bach Haselbachtal, surrounded by dense forest. Farther east, between Haselbach and Harbach lined up in a large, stretched to the north hallway island Harrenberg, Zwerenberg, Hager and - at about the same width - west bus station and east Eschenstruet. Still little further north is Liemannsklinge isolated, separated by a wooded transverse valley of the other five.

At the height south of the Murr arc lies in a larger clearing Ittensberg island, further south in a smaller the Eschelhof.

History

The 1225 first mentioned in Sulzbach is due to partially used already in Roman times major road links. In its origin Sulzbach is therefore probably much older. Once the place was under the Lehnsabhängigkeit of the neighboring monastery Murrhardt. The place name is derived from " brawn" or " Sulz ", which translates as " marshy place " or " swampy water". In the local coat of arms still remembers the lion of the Counts of Löwenstein as former landlords of the community, the fish on the eponymous Fischbach. Lie on a small area threshold west on this river flood-proof the oldest parts of the village with the remains of the former fortified church plant around the striking Ulrich Church. 1504 Sulzbach came as part of the county Löwenstein Württemberg sovereignty, but remained below the seat of the Office Sulzbach- Fornsbach.

1573 received the community market rights, which is exerted to the present day in the form of three annual fairs and a weekly market. On 29 May 1753 a large fire destroyed two-thirds of the then existing buildings besides the church and town hall. Only 62 buildings spared by the fire. 1756 the new Protestant church is dedicated. Some 50 years later Sulzbach fell due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss circuit completely to Württemberg. In 1844 the separation of Fornsbach. With the sale of the castle sounds Reck in 1867 the Counts of Löwenstein gave up their possessions. In the Kingdom of Württemberg Sulzbach first belonged to the upper office Backnang, since 1934 then to the district Backnang. After its dissolution in 1973, the community came to the newly formed Rems -Murr -Kreis.

Religions

A church is mentioned for the first time in Sulzbach 1295. It is with the introduction of the Reformation in Württemberg Evangelical Lutheran. Today's St. Ulrich's Church of 1875 forms the center and served in the past as a fortified church.

A Roman Catholic church was built again until after the Second World War, north of the state road 1066. Besides there is also an Apostolic and Evangelical Methodist congregation.

Structures

The lute stretching Castle is a moated castle and was built by the Counts of Löwenstein to secure the leading past Sulzbachstraße. It dates in its present form from the third quarter of the 16th century. The massive base of sandstone blocks, the shapes of the corner towers and arched entrance point but to earlier phases, probably in the 13th century, back.

The well-preserved castle was formerly surrounded by a wall with a moat. The castle was built in 2008 and 2009 provided by refurbished and modern, for example, with an elevator and a new wedding room for Sulzbach. Also, two citizens halls and a kitchen have been modernized.

The Sulzbach station ( Murr ) on the railway line Waiblingen- Schwäbisch Hall Hessental is weekdays daytime hourly served by the regional express trains Stuttgart- Schwäbisch Hall Hessental or Crailsheim / Nuremberg (except Saturday). At weekends and on public holidays, the RE Stuttgart- Schwäbisch Hall Hessental through until Backnang circulating regional trains to be replaced. Sulzbach has a special school, a secondary school and a primary and secondary school with Werkrealschule. The Rems -Murr-Kreis maintains a branch office of the Sprachheilschule with Sprachheilkindergarten. In addition, there are two Protestant and one Roman Catholic kindergarten.
