SZD-50 Puchacz

The PZL Bielsko SZD -50 Puchacz ( German: Uhu ) is a two- seat trainer and performance glider. The glider - index is 84

History

The development of Puchacz began in the mid -1970s with the aim of a modern two-seat training glider with good handling properties of the mid-priced to construct. This one went from a prototype called SZD -50 -1 " Dromader " from. This had its maiden flight on 21 December 1976 Adam Zientek. The prototype was similar to the SZD -9 Bocian, a normal tail, which led to considerable problems. It was not possible even for experienced pilots, as after three spin turns discharging the aircraft earlier from a spin ( the Bocian was stable auszuleiten already after half a revolution again). According to Polish pilots from the manufacturer, a prototype was lost in this way. Reason for the unacceptable behavior during flight spin was that completely was the deep normal tailplane when tailspin in the wake of the wings and was almost ineffective. The tail unit was redesigned out. As a cross-tail with increased mounted tailplane, the aircraft was easily drain out from a spin, though not as good as the very good-natured Bocian. The actual prototype of the Puchacz flew until one year after the " Dromader ". In 1979 we began production. The Puchacz was then in several countries, including Germany, often used for training. The GDR sat 62 Puchacz from 1983 in the GST.

Construction

The mid-wing aircraft manufactured in GRP semi- monocoque construction. The trapezoidal wings have up and down retractable spoiler, which allow a very steep landing approach compared to other gliders. The cruciform tail is half high, so that a sufficient ground clearance can be ensured. The chassis consists of a braked, rubber-sprung main gear, small nose wheel and tail skid at the rear. The highly efficient disc brake of the main landing gear is activated by the pilot through a located on the left side of the cockpit control cable mechanism. The student pilot sits in front, the instructor behind. In an emergency, can be triggered one-piece cockpit glazing both the pilots and the flight instructor or fellow passengers, the rear -fitting triggering jettisson the canopy via Bowden cables to the front passes. The aircraft has a built- in two seats " on-board toilet " for liquids. The wings no longer have manually separable couplings of the ailerons and Störplatten. These are automatically coupled during assembly.

Use

The Puchacz is suitable for all types of glider training including simple aerobatics. Also can be done with this aircraft, the flight training devices and power -distance flight. The following aerobatic maneuvers may be flown with the Puchacz: Loop, Turn, turn, curve, steep circle, spin and downturn. With little effort ( installing a 5 -point harness, g - meter, etc.) can be changed over the Puchacz the category of " Acro ", which are also inverted flight and rolls possible.
