Tak and the Power of Juju (TV series)

Tak and the Power of Juju is a computer-animated television series from 2007 and 2008.


The focus of the series is about a 14 -year-old jungle boy Tak. He lives with his tribe, the Pupununu, and is an apprentice of his uncle, the shaman of the tribe. This gives it the mysterious Power of Juju and thus skills that would otherwise have only 177 -year-old shaman.

Tak thus has the task of helping the tribe and to mediate between him and the world of Juju spirits. Very often proves to Tak for this task as too immature and inexperienced. Only with the help of his friends he can perform his daily tasks.


Main Characters

  • Tak is 14 years old and a member of Pupununustamms. On his birthday, he learned that Jibolba has found him as a baby on the Jujualtar. Now he discovered that his mother was a Juju named Aurora, who had become involved with a man of Pupununustamms. This Tak is a Halbjuju who can join forces with the help of a magic crystal. Nevertheless Tak stay with his uncle Jibolba which forms him to become a shaman. Often it is a little cocky and boastful, but he always does his best for his tribe and his friends.
  • Jeera is Tak's best friend. It is about in Taks age and the youngest daughter of the chief. She hates her older sister, Zaria, do not like girly stuff and drives prefer around with Tak and keeko.
  • Keeko is Taks and Jeeras best friend. He is a dreamer and Marauders who likes to invent things.
  • Banutu Steven Jibolba is Taks uncle and teacher. He is the shaman of the Pupununu. He is well over 100 years old.

The Pupununu

  • The Chief is the chief of the Pupununus and the father of Jeera and Zaria. He is a sensualist who loves food.
  • Zaria is Jeeras 18- year-old sister, the heiress to the throne of Pupununu. She is obsessed with her ​​perfect beauty.
  • Lok is the fighter of the place, a bit simple-minded and conceited man.
  • Tree trunk old man is the ancient hermits of the strain carrying a tree trunk instead of clothes.
  • Mask man is the shepherd of the tribe, who always wears a mask.
  • Navis is Jeeras pet.

The Jujus

The Jujus are a kind of spirits that live in parallel worlds, but also in the world of Pupununu. Depending on the type they have different ( magic ) skills, behaviors and preferences. With the help of his staff Tak can summon or travel to their worlds.

Production and publication

The series was produced in 2007, directed by Mark Risley from a screenplay by Nicole Dubuc of Nickelodeon Animation Studios. The music composed Shawn Patterson and Guy Moon, the animations were produced partly by Red Eye Animation Studios.

Nickelodeon sent the series for the first time on August 31, 2007 to November 29, 2008 in the United States. Translations followed, among others, into Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese. The German premiere took place from September 8, 2008 by Nick Premium, later broadcast followed in the free TV channels Nick.



The series was nominated in the category of sound effects for the Golden Reel Award in 2008.
