Tarja Halonen

Tarja Kaarina Halonen [ tɑrjɑ hɑlɔnɛn ] ( born December 24, 1943 in Helsinki, Finland) is a Finnish politician. She was on 1 March 2000, the first female head of state of Finland. In 2006 she was re-elected for a second term, which ended on 1 March 2012. According to the Finnish Constitution, only two terms of office of the President have been possible since 1994.

Career

As a law graduate, she appeared in 1971 in the Social Democratic Party of Finland a. From 1977 to 1996 she was a Member of the Helsinki City Council, from 1979 to 2000 in the Finnish Parliament.
