Tartas

Tartas is a commune with 3134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Landes department of the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district Dax and the cantons Tartas -Est -Ouest and Tartas. The ancient name Taro is derived from the Aquitanian people of Tarusaten.

Geography

Tartas lies on the border between the country and the Grandes Chalosse, two completely contrasting landscapes. The Midouze, a tributary of the Adour, this provided a natural barrier which the pine forest on one side, the hill country on the other side. Also Tartas is divided by the Midouze in two cantons.
