Vielle-Saint-Girons

Vielle -Saint -Girons is a commune in the Landes department of the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district Dax, to Canton Castets and founded in 2005, community association Côte State Nature.

The municipality has marked 1195 inhabitants (1 January 2011) and is particularly through tourism. It has two campgrounds and the beach town of Saint- Girons -Plage, where only restaurants and apartments are located.

Geography

Vielle -Saint -Girons is a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean between Arcachon and Biarritz, but closer to Biarritz than to Arcachon. The departmental capital of Mont -de- Marsan is 75 km away. The area around the town is dominated by the undulating landscape of the dunes. The largest part of the municipal area is covered by forest.

The community Vielle -Saint -Girons is divided into municipalities Vielle, Saint -Girons and Saint- Girons -Plage, the latter is inhabited by tourists almost exclusively in summer.

History

Saint- Girons probably goes back to an ancient settlement. 1932 Saint- Girons was united with the neighboring village of Bourg de Vielle to double municipality Vielle -Saint -Girons. Saint- Girons -Plage emerged only in the 1970s.

Tourism

Tourism plays an important role in Vielle -Saint -Girons. There are two campsites ( CAMPÉOLE Les Tourterelles and Eurosol ). In addition, as a tourist resort in the beach town of Saint- Girons -Plage exists. There is along a 300 m long closed to vehicle traffic road almost exclusively restaurants and shops.

By Vielle -Saint -Girons lead the D652, the D42 and the D382. About the D42 can be reached via Linxe and Castets to E5/E70/A63 to Bordeaux and Biarritz in the north to the south. Moreover, it is connected via a local road towards Saint -Girons -Plage directly with the sea.

Transport

In 35 km away Dax is a bus that starts three times a day in Saint- Girons -Plage. In Dax is connected to the French railroad network. There used in Vielle and Saint -Girons breakpoints for the railroad, but of which almost nothing remains today.

Cycle network

Radius Vielle -Saint -Girons, there is a well-developed network of cycle paths. It is possible to drive in the north to Mimizan and in the south to Soustons.
