Formation

For the year 2009 the band planned initially only the publication of a second compilation, but when they had written enough new material, this compilation was eventually postponed to 2010 so that was initially released with The Circle a complete studio album before the following year with Greatest Hits a compilation with up to four unreleased songs came out.

The first single from the album was We Were not Born to Follow, and was played on the radio on 17 August 2009 for the first time. In a Rolling Stone interview Richie Sambora described the album as "return to rock and roll ."

The Circle appeared separately in a limited Deluxe Edition, which also includes a DVD with the documentary When We Were Beautiful. It is also the first Bon Jovi album since New Jersey ( 1988), which was released without additional bonus tracks in selected countries. This explained Jon Bon Jovi so that only one or two songs did not appear on The Circle and, ultimately, would be used on the following Greatest Hits album.

Reception

Criticism

The album sold in its first week worldwide well. However, it could not withstand the high sales expectations. The reviews were rather average. Marked Nigel Britto the Times of India the album as a " return to tradition " that " is the old fans like ." Billboard.com awarded 79 out of 100 points for the " return to roots "; Metacritic.com awarded 52 out of 100 points based on 10 reviews. Boris Kaiser from the magazine Rock Hard missed only six out of ten points and extreme, "Though Bon Jovi German, they would probably go every now and again with the SPD on election campaign tour. Although The Circle comes from 40 -bedroom villas, but sounds incredibly provincial, with practically every song you think of small town festivals, corner pubs, beer and bratwurst, bouncy castles, Sunday shopping - Castrop -Rauxel instead Prenzlauer Berg. This is in his ostensible Uncoolsein actually only times pleasant at first hearing, has a closer employment but also a slick Onkelhaftigkeit between Roland Kaiser and Pur. In terms of songwriting The Circle is, though the fun -making Born to Be My Baby - memory single We Were not Born to Follow, and other rumors, on pretty directly to Have a Nice Day and Lost Highway: Apart from outbreaks, is the eleventh Bon - Jovi album neither "real " Hard Rock still serious Springsteen homage ( as the magnum opus New Jersey), but still only pleasing background music with a few random hook - ups - and thus more likely to duty as freestyle ".
