The Crystal Ship is a song by The Doors, released in 1967 on the album The Doors.

History

According to drummer John Densmore Jim Morrison wrote the love song after breaking up with his girlfriend Mary Werbelow.

The inspiration for the piece was supposed to be an oil rig off the coast of Santa Barbara, called Holly, who saw Morrison one night on the beach. The rig looked at lighting like a crystal ship (Crystal Ship).

In 1989, the song was True Believer with James Woods and Robert Downey Jr. used in the film. In The X-Files - The Movie Fox Mulder hears the song during a crisis of self-discovery in a bar In the 14th episode of the second season of Supernatural Song was used.

From the 1970s until the early 1980s there was a Doors cover band from New Jersey, the " The Crystal Ship" was called.
