The Man Who Killed Don Quixote

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is not yet a finished feature film by British director Terry Gilliam. Filming began initially in October 2000. Due to adverse circumstances, an overly optimistic finance and particularly a disease of the lead actor Jean Rochefort had to be stopped after a few days stopped production. As a result, fell both the footage and the screenplay rights to a German insurance company.

The failure of the shooting were accompanied by an independent film crew from the American director Keith Fulton. From the material of the award-winning documentary Lost in La Mancha was established.

In May 2006, Terry Gilliam announced that all legal disputes with the German insurance company had been settled and the filming would be resumed. As the new leading man Robert Duvall was committed. Instead of Johnny Depp Ewan McGregor takes second major role. The budget was reduced from 35 million U.S. dollars to 20 million U.S. dollars. Nevertheless, there were still problems with financing. In autumn 2010, Gilliam was the Deauville Film Festival, that the shooting would start at the earliest in September 2011.

In January 2014 Gilliam announced the resumption of pre-production for the film.
