Deauville American Film Festival
The American Film Festival ( Festival du cinéma américain de Deauville ) is a year in the French coastal town of Deauville (Normandy) held the International Film Festival. It has been held since 1975 and is dedicated to the American Independent cinema. His first non- competitive nature has stored only in 1995 with the introduction of an award by a jury of the festival.
Past and present
The American Film Festival was established in 1975 in the Norman Deauville from Lionel and André Halimi Chouchan to life. It was funded initially with the help of the local casino and hotel chain Groupe Lucien Barrière, it also received support from the city itself under the then Mayor Michel d' Ornano. The establishment of the film festival took place in the context and in the aftermath of the opening of the city to the international tourism.
The venue is the Centre international de Deauville, the period of the event is always the first Thursday in September of one year to the Sunday of the following week. From the beginning, the film festival was dedicated to the cinema across the Atlantic. First, without competition, prizes for the best feature film and since 1998 prices for the best short film will be awarded since 1995.
Since 1977, honors earned by personalities of American cinema will take place during the festival. Not least for this reason, American Stars frequent guests of the festival. Several tributes were awarded posthumously, including 1987, to Rita Hayworth. Several occasions there were thematic homages, such as the 25th anniversary of the Sundance Film Festival 2006.
