Thunderstone (band)

Thunderstone is a company incorporated in 2000 by Nino Laurenne Finnish power metal band.

Band History

The band Thunderstone was founded by Finnish guitarist Nino Laurenne early 2000. After recording the first demo, met with Titus Hjelm ( bass), Pasi Rantanen (vocals) and Mirka Rantanen (drums), three more musicians to the band added. In mid-2001, the quartet was reinforced by Kari Tornack (keyboard) and recorded a second demo, the Thunder Stone earned a record deal with Nuclear Blast.

The debut album Thunder Stone was published in 2002. As a guest musician guitarist Timo Tolkki worked with ( Stratovarius ). The album made ​​it into various hit lists "Best Metal Album 2002 ". In early 2003 the band by the fans of Rock Hard magazine was selected Newcomer of the Year and it was followed by a European tour with Symphony X and Stratovarius.

After the tour, the band went back into the studio and recorded with The Burning their second album, participated at the time guitarist Michael Romeo ( Symphony X). A second European tour ( with Axel Rudi Pell ) was followed, with the Thunderstone her first festival appearance at the Wacken Open Air celebrated.

The third album Tools of Destruction was released in 2005 and its single release tool of the Devil made ​​it to number 3 on the Finnish charts. This time the band toured with Lordi, Hammerfall and Firewind through Europe.

2006 then released their fourth album, Evolution 4.0, with which the band made ​​the first jump into the top 10 of the Finnish charts. The following year, the first appearance in the U.S. was completed. In Finland, they participated in the Finnish Trials for Euro Vision Song Contest and occupied while the 2nd place behind the rock singer Hanna Pakarinen.

End of August 2007 the band split from singer Pasi Rantanen and keyboardist Kari Tornack. As a short-term replacement for their first headlining tour ( with Nocturnal Rites ) keyboardist Jukka Karinen ( Status Minor ) and singer Tommi Salmela ( Tarot ) were presented.

Beginning of February 2008 gave the band announced that Jukka Karinen will be now an integral part of the line- ups and also put you Rick Altzi ( At Vance ) before a new singer. In July 2013 it was announced on the Facebook page that singer Rick Altzi left the band in friendship because of his activities in the master plan, also drummer Mirka Rantanen left the group for personal reasons. On August 2, it was announced on the Facebook page that singer Pasi Rantanen foundation was part of the band again.
