Tikhoretsk

Tikhoretsk (Russian Тихорецк ) is a Russian district town with 61 823 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). Administratively, it belongs to the Krasnodar region in southern Russia.

Geography

Tikhoretsk is located 136 km northeast of the regional capital Krasnodar. In the city the railway lines Rostov - Baku - Novorossiysk and Volgograd cross.

History

1874 Tikhoretsk station was built and named after the settlement Tikhoretskaya in whose territory he was (now Krasnooktjabrskaja ). In 1895, the hamlet was founded in Tichorezki area of the settlement Tikhoretskaya, 1899 there a workshop for the repair of steam engines was established.

1922 Tikhoretsk received city status in 1924 it became the district capital.

Today is Tikhoretsk both agricultural center and industrial city, among other things, machine building, light and food industries. Here also is a junction point of several oil pipelines.
