Tim Rice

Sir Timothy Miles Bindon " Tim " Rice ( born November 10, 1944 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England ) is a British musical and movie music lyricist.

Musical career

Tim Rice began his career as an agent for the music company EMI. When his mentor Norrie Paramor left the company, followed him Rice and learned soon after Andrew Lloyd Webber know.

The two got together - Webber wrote the music, Rice wrote the lyrics - and wrote among other things, musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. To Chess Musical Music by ABBA composers, he wrote the lyrics.

Rice then worked a lot for the Disney film studios, including the films Aladdin and The Lion King and the stage version of Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and a musical version of Verdi's opera Aida. For this he was appointed in 2002 at the Disneyland Resort Paris " Disney Legend ."

Since the 1960s, he also writes lyrics for well-known composers such as Vangelis, Mike Batt, Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Burt Bacharach, Marvin Hamlisch and John Barry ( title song of the James Bond film Octopussy: "All Time High" ) and performers like Elvis Presley, Plácido Domingo, 10cc, Gary Glitter and Tony Christie.

Rice was honored for his work with twelve Ivor Novello Awards, four Tony Awards and three Academy Awards. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and beaten by Queen Elizabeth II knighted in 1999. In 2007, Rice received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Other professional activities

Tim Rice has worked his main job as a songwriter among other things as a book author, publisher, radio presenter, singer, actor and manager. In addition, he was often invited as a candidate in quiz shows for his broad knowledge of Rock-/Popmusik, which earned him in 1985 the title "Rock Brain of the Universe" ( Rock Brain of the Universe).
