Tiruttani (Taluk)

The Taluk Tiruttani (Tamil: திருத்தணி வட்டம் ) is a taluk ( subdistrict ) of Tiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Capital is the eponymous city Tiruttani.

Geography

The Tiruttani Taluk lies in the west of the district of Tiruvallur in the north Tamil Nadu. It is bordered by the Taluk Tiruvallur in the east, the district of Vellore in the south, the Taluk Pallipattu in the west and to the neighboring Federal State of Andhra Pradesh in the north.

The Tiruttani Taluk is congruent with the block Tiruttani and Tiruvalangadu. Its area is 448 square kilometers.

History

The Tiruttani Taluk was during the British colonial period to the first District North Arcot and Chittoor district in 1911 later founded the Madras Presidency. When, after the Indian independence the borders of the states were reorganized according to the language barriers, the affiliation of Tiruttani developed into the issue. 1953 Tiruttani Taluk was yet come together with the rest of the district Chittoor to the Telugu formed from the northern part of Madras state of Andhra, from which in 1956 the state of Andhra Pradesh emerged. Because of its predominantly Tamil population of the Taluk Tiruttani in 1960 but again (1969 renamed Tamil Nadu ) slammed together with the Taluk Pallipattu the now newly formed according to the linguistic boundaries of the state of Tamil Madras. The Taluk was incorporated in the District Chengalpattu, arose from the northern part of 1997, the District Tiruvallur.

Population

According to the 2011 census, the taluk Tiruttani has 210 424 inhabitants. Of these, 78.7 percent are classified as rural and 20.3 percent as urban population. The population density is 470 inhabitants per square kilometer.
