Antônio Carlos Cerezo, Toninho Cerezo called (* April 21, 1955 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil ), is a former Brazilian football player and current football coach.

Career

Club career

Toninho Cerezo started his footballer career with Atlético Mineiro in his native city of Belo Horizonte. At the age of 16 he received his first professional contract in 1972 and debuted in the Série A. But in the following months, he did not often used. Therefore, he allowed himself to FC Nacional, where the man with the mustache matured team regular, borrow. In 1974 he returned to Atletico Mineiro. Again, he was now the time an important part of the team. Seven times ( 1976 and 1978-1983 ), he won the state championship of Minas Gerais, once the state championship by Amazon. 1977 and 1980 he was voted the best in 1976 as the second best player of the season.

National

His debut in the Brazilian national football team gave the midfielder of Atletico Mineiro in the international game on 10 March 1977 in Rio de Janeiro against Colombia ( 6-0 ). Among the highlights of his career in the Selecao were the two participations in the World Cup tournament in Argentina in 1978 and 1982 in Spain. In Argentina, he was in the three group matches against Sweden (1-1), Spain ( 0-0) and Austria (1-0 ) in use. In the second final round games were added against Peru ( 3-0) and Poland (3:1). The tournament ended with the 3rd place match on June 24 in Buenos Aires against Italy with a 2-1 success. Valuable players in the tournament were Dirceu, Zico and Roberto Dinamite.

1980/81 he took part in the " Mini World Cup " and was set in each game. Brazil won against world champions Argentina and European champions Germany, but lost the final against Uruguay.

With coach Tele Santana Cerezo took part in Spain at the World Cup tournament in 1982. In the first game against the Soviet Union, he was still sitting on the bench, in the group matches against Scotland ( 4-1) and against New Zealand ( 4-0) he belonged to the starting XI. In the final round he was on 2 July in Barcelona for the midfield with Socrates, Falcao and Zico, the defending champion Argentina had a 3-1 success in their place. Three days later, the disappointment was all the greater, as a center forward Paolo Rossi threw in a triumph with three goals for Italy Brazil by the 2:3 defeat of the tournament.
