Tony Amonte

Anthony Lewis " Tony" Amonte ( born August 2, 1970 in Hingham, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player and current coach of Italian descent. During his playing career he played between 1991 and 2007 for the New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks, Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League. Since 2010 he works as a trainer at the high school hockey program of the Thayer Academy. His cousin Charlie Coyle is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Tony played at his high school time for Thayer Academy together with his friend Jeremy Roenick. At this time, the New York Rangers secured the rights to him in 1988 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round when they picked out as 68. He moved to the Boston University and also played there during the varsity team, the Terriers two good years. During this time he also represented the U.S. in two World Junior Championships. Two days after losing the final of the 1991 NCAA Championship in the third overtime, he signed his first professional contract with the Rangers. Shortly before the final of the 1993/94 season, the Rangers gave him away to the Chicago Blackhawks. He missed winning the Stanley Cup with the Rangers, but was in Chicago, where he again met his friend Jeremy Roenick, the ability to develop into one of the top scorers in the league.
