Simultaneously with the sewer River from the confluence channel was deepened and widened to the edge of the old town to the channel Travelodge. In the Old Town of Lübeck the river course has been redesigned according to the needs of shipping and the medieval city defense, so it south of the Lübeck Cathedral bifurcates into several bodies of water. First, the moat branches off to the west, then the channel to the east of the original Travelodge Travelodge run and leads in the former bed of the Wakenitzrestaurant to Klughafen on the northeast side of the old town. The Wakenitzrestaurant, originally limited the Old Town to the east is in the Rehderbrücke (formerly crows bridge ) conducted by a culvert under the canal Traveling through the Krähenteich and flows from there through the mill pond in the City Travelodge ( stadtlübisch: Upper Trave ). This is part of the original Travel supervisors on the western edge of the old town. On its left bank are the salt storage. North of the Holsten Gate Travelodge this run is stadtlübisch part of the Travelodge and but is still called officially Stadttrave to the confluence with the channel Travelodge. On the right bank, the street on the Upper Trave, is the Academy of Music. West of the former ramparts runs the Lübeck city ditch.

Untertrave

North of the Holsten start seaports. At the north end of Old Town Island at the castle gate to the city moat, city rave and channel Travelodge reunite. Are Lübeck trade ports between the Holsten Gate and the artificially caused by a puncture in the 19th century Teerhofinsel. Where roulette and Old waters meet, flows from north to Schwartau. On the peninsula between it and the old Travelodge is the Slavic castle wall Liubice. At the nature reserve Schellbruch and the fishing village Gothmund past it flows to the men's island, now a peninsula, north of which it is being crossed by Mr. tunnel. From the Lord island it is considered coastal waters as a regular influx of water from the Bay of Lübeck for a salt content of between about 2 and 5 g / kg provides. Because of its glacial origin is the estuary between Mr. Island and the mouth in the Bay of Lübeck, including the widening Pötenitzer Wiek and the Bay Dassower See also a conveyance, the Trave estuary.

East of the Lord island lies on the right bank of the district Schlutup with the confluence of Lübeck Landgraben. Compared to begin the Dummersdorfer shore with his Stülper Huk. After that, the Travelodge extended eastward to the already mentioned Pötenitzer Wiek. In the Dassower See the Stepenitz opens. The Trave estuary distance between the Pötenitzer Wiek and the open Luebeck Bay, west of Travemünde and east bounded by Priwall is actually already an estuary.

Origin of Travelodge promotion

The deep incision of the Trave was born when the last ice age ( the Weichselian ) glacial aushobelten a gutter. Since the end of the Ice Age, the channel is connected to the Baltic Sea in conjunction and forms the Trave estuary. This funding also provides the lower reaches of the river Trave Represents the water of the Trave only since about 12,000 BC flows north into the Bay of Lübeck from the Baltic Sea. Before the outflow direction was by the glacial troughs to the south, as the path to the north was blocked by the glacier remnants.

The steady flow of water, the Travelodge keeps the flow of Travelodge ( firth ) to the Baltic Sea - against the most Brodtener bank worn and displaced by the flow eastward sand masses - open, thereby preventing separation of the Baltic Sea.

Historical significance

The Travelodge was referred to in the first century as Dravus, Drave in Magna Germania.

In the upper reaches of the River Trave formed together with the Schwentine the Limes Saxoniae and the western boundary of Wagrien. In the Old Town of Lübeck, she was part of the system of medieval and modern Lübeck city fortifications. In the lower reaches was and is border to Mecklenburg, sometimes as Inner German border. The sovereign rights on the River Trave and the Bay of Lübeck were in dispute between Lübeck and Mecklenburg since Barbarossa privilege ( 1188 ). For the bank during the Travelodge dispute on June 21, 1890, decided by the imperial court.

Because of its importance, the course of Untertrave in the past has been corrected several times. The first Travekorrektion place in the years 1850-54; connected to a puncture in the Lord ferry the fairway on throughout at least 4 m was deepened. 1882 arose in the course of 2 Travekorrektion ( 1879-83 ) through a puncture the Teerhofinsel. The ride area was significantly shortened by the Lübeck Water Planning Director Louis Martiny with his staff Peter Rehder and deepens the fairways at 5 m minimum depth. In the third Travekorrektion ( 1901-07 ) driving water through the water between the coast before construction director Rehder Travemünde and Lübeck inner ports was again, this time deepened to 8.5 m at Travemünde and Lübeck up to 7.5 m. Due to the further increasing ship drafts a 4 Travekorrektion closed immediately with the goal of a continuous depth of 8.5 m. It gives the full Zweischiffigkeit for ships of 8 m Draft should be achieved. This correction, however, was conditional, ultimately completed by the two world wars until 1961. To prevent stagnation of the development of the port of Lübeck, followed 1961-82, the 5th Travekorrektion for a 9.5 m expansion. Besides the deepening and widening of the navigation channel bank revetments shipping characters were, inter alia, to a large extent built, modernized and expanded the Lübeck ports.

Ship traffic is controlled by a traffic center near the Travemünder lighthouse. For the control of Travemünde, the lighthouse is irrelevant, the beacon is now on the roof of the Maritime skyscraper.
